Alpine Collection
My new collection Alpine is a connection to my 16 year old self. That summer I packed up my car and drove west with only a job lined up in the Okanagan and no clear plans beyond that. I had just finished Grade 11 and I knew I couldn't return to my childhood home for my final year of high school.
Crossing the Rockies alone, I left behind the endless skies of the prairies and found myself completely in awe of the mountains and the turquoise lakes. For the first time, it wasn't the ever expanding sky and rolling prairies that held my gaze - it was the dramatic skyline of towering giants and oceans that took my breath away.
My recent collection Western Skies was an ode to the prairies - a landscape that continues to inspire me and remains deeply woven into my artwork. I have always been drawn to the endless lines of the prairies and their gentle paths. However, the mountains sparked something deeper within me. Among the mountain ridges and flowing waters, there is a sense of being lost yet completely present. Even now, after years of living in the Okanagan Valley, the mountains continue to hold that power; alongside feelings of awe and gratitude for their beauty. The alpine landscape has become a place of calm and clarity, a space my mind returns to for creative inspiration and inner peace. Since I was 16, the mountains and bodies of water have been more than just a physical place I find inspiration - they have been a symbol of the challenges I have faced in the past and a representation of the hard paths I have had to overcome in order to grow, and the journey I have taken toward discovering joy and peace.
The Alpine collection is a testament of my growth and the journey to who I am now. My love of the Rocky mountains, oceans, and lakes has never faltered, which have quietly stood by me through both creative exploration and personal transformation; as towering gentle giants and peaceful reflections of the skies above.
